A couple days ago we had a current client email asking about year-end steps to lower taxes.

First, we don’t want to lower an already low tax bill. We don’t want to save in the 12% or less bracket this year and pay in the 32% or more bracket next year. You may have a different target tax bracket.

Here are some other ideas:

  • Assuming that we aren’t too low, use MTM trading to avoid wash sales
  • Accelerate payments into this year
  • Contribute to retirement accounts vs Roth
  • Consider deferred compensation
  • Hold winners in non-MTM accounts
  • Sell losers in non-MTM accounts
  • Purchase needed equipment before year end
  • Consider Opportunity Zone investing
  • Use your PTE account for state tax payments

For our clients, check your FAQ email for ideas. Our goal is always to get that tax bill lower year in and year out. Contact us today to have us help you get your tax burden lower.
